Shutter Island

In 1954, U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his colleague, Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), set off to the Ashecliff Hospital for the criminally insane on Shutter Island. They are looking into the disappearance of Rachel Solando (Emily Mortimer), a patient who disappeared out of a locked room. Dr. John Cawley (Ben Kingsley), the head shrink, makes clear that Rachel was institutionalized just after drowning her three children. She feels, however, that she is still at home and that her kids are still alive.

The cliffs bordering the border make it unthinkable for Rachel to have arrived at the near by caves. Teddy spots a lighthouse however is informed it has previously been searched. The Marshals challenge the staff and learn that Rachel’s shrink, Dr. Sheehan, left for holiday that morning. Teddy requests to see the hospital’s employee files but Cawley refuses. That evening, Teddy has weird dreams about his wife, Dolores (Michelle Williams), who passed on in a fire two years before. She explains to him Rachel is still on the island, so is Andrew Laeddis (Elias Koteas), the actual man that started off the fire.
